ALEKS, my personal favorite, uses artificial intelligence software to routinely assess what a student actually knows, reinforce the areas that they need extra help in, and moves them through a pie chart of skills with interactive lessons and explanations that students view along the way. Periodically, new assessments are given and the software individually redesigns the material that your student needs to learn to tailor a math course that is unique to each student. Rather than having chapter tests, students work to complete the entire pie chart. The course is complete when the student has 100% mastery, so the foundation of skills is very strong when a student completes the course. In any math program, students should also practice self-checking and use a Critique System for evaluating their personal problem areas, but with regular evaluations such as these and solid online math programs, students can significantly change the way they feel about math, as well as their skill in math. Online math is an excellent option worth considering, certainly for home-schoolers, but also for any students who want to brush up on skills over the summer.
Home schooling your own children can seem overwhelming with everything that you will be required to teach them. But if you take the time to make a plan you will have everything covered easily and teaching them what they need to know in life. One of the most basic things that you will have to teach your children is how to count money. This can be done when they are just starting out in school. There are some easy ways to teach them and they will learn quickly.
If your third grader needs help with math, there are many useful tools that can downloaded directly from the computer. Math is a subject that is best taught with visual aids, making the lessons more tangible for students. Third grade can be particularly challenging when it comes to math, as this is the year that students are learning about fractions, measuring and weighing objects, graphing and counting money. Most importantly, third graders should be comfortable with the basics of math such as adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing. If your child is not comfortable with these basic components, it is almost inevitable that he or she will struggle with future math lessons.
Birthday printables are of different bright colors so that your kids will love working with, whether it is at school or at home. So go for them and let your kids go crazy sending invitations, greeting cards, gift tags, stickers and gift wrap cards to friends.
What you can do to make working on printable worksheets more enjoyable for your child may often depend on the age and interests of the child. For example, older children may have to read a poem which is on the sheet and then write their own poem in the same sort of style. If they have been used to playing word games while growing up this should not be a problem, you just have to find a way of making the doing of it attractive. One thing that they might enjoy is if you put on a favourite cd and get them to see if they can use some of the main phrases from that in a different way, i.e. in the style of the poem. Depending on your child has age and concentration span there are plenty of fun ways to get them working on printable worksheets.
Homeschool worksheets are a vital part of the student has homeschool experience. They allow the child to test his or her knowledge, and they offer them a practical application for their learning. Worksheets also, when used properly, provide both the students and parent / tutor immediate feedback as to the child has progress. This means they can be used to point out areas where the student needs further reinforcement. Homeschool worksheets fortunately will not over-tax your budget. There are many places where you can get them at extremely low costs. In fact, several websites offer printable worksheets for free.
In a growing move amongst home-schoolers to look at online courses, one subject area lends itself towards a bit more hesitation from the group. Home-schoolers want to like online courses because of the flexibility of them, but with regard to math, they are just not so sure about the validity of online math. There is reason for this, but many students are having good success with online math programs, and slowly but surely, the homeschooling community is coming around. Home-schoolers tend to shy away from online math due to the perception that math is better learned with a real person giving instruction and students following along in their textbooks. Many students learn well this way, but online math courses operate on a different philosophy. They presume that students can learn to understand material with information, practice, and feedback, and in essence, can become their own teachers. This is a far more effective method of instruction in the long run, and while it does take some adjustment, many programs make this method very viable for students of all abilities.
